Yesterday evening, I decided to go out for a drive to the beach. Since my favorite beach is literally only a 12-minute drive, I jumped in the car and took off. The drive to Laguna Beach is relaxing as the last seven minutes to the destination is a twisty road down Laguna Canyon road, the music was blasting and my mind was in an instant state of relaxation. After moving back to California at the end of April, a few days later, I headed to New York City for the weekend and spent another few weeks in the DC area. It was a beautiful time reuniting with a few of the most special people in my life and also a time to just reflect. I also quickly realized the energy shifts between the different places I traveled to and who I was surrounded by. Strong moments of positivity and feeling at-home and at peace to energies that brought upon feelings of uncertainty and discomfort when around people with opposite energies. Being able to recognize these energy shifts helped me to figure out what to do to get back into a positive state. After being surrounded by the ocean yesterday, I came up with some of the things that I consider to be soul-soothing.
1. Watching the waves crash (and long walks on the beach)
The beach has always been my happy place and an instant mood booster. Hearing the soothing waves crash and smelling the salty air is always so refreshing.
2. Journaling and drinking tea
I've started journaling again over the past few months and it's always nice to get your thoughts down on paper no matter what time of day and having that cup of tea makes it even better!
3. Reconnecting with close friends
The month of May has been a sentimental one for me as I've reconnected with many old friends that I haven't seen in ages and also met new ones who I've connected with on Instagram! I even bumped into a friend in New York City who I grew up with in Spain. It's always beautiful to pick up where you left off with close friends, talk about where you are at in life, how you have grown as a person, and creating new heartfelt memories along the way.
4. Being in nature
I spent a lot of time outdoors this month and it was definitely soul-soothing soaking in all the sunshine and what nature has to offer. One of the most relaxing weekends this month was spending it at Lake Anna in Virginia with a huge group of friends.
5. Endless walks around the city
The first weekend of May was spent exploring New York City solo. After living in NYC in 2012, this was the first time I explored the city again on my own and I enjoyed every minute of just wandering the streets with no schedule on-hand. I always love the energy and instant inspiration I get whenever I'm in NYC. The creativity instantly flows as soon as I start exploring and it's endless.
6. New adventures
Traveling has always been part of my soul and it's something that I want to continue over the years. I already have a list of countries that I would love to explore! Maybe I will share it on my next blog post! Travel is one of my top soul-soothing moments; it's energizing and it doesn't always have to be stressful.
